3 March, 2017 - Hi everyone! I'd like to take this opportunity to again say a big thank you for the comments and the feedback, as well to everyone who took the time to come and vote!
It's great to see this much interest in the game! I've prepared a big FAQ based on some questions I've been asked, hopefully this will answer any questions anyone has. If you have a question that isn't on this list, please feel free to ask in a discussion or a comment! - Q: Is Kreedz Climbing going to cost money if successfully Greenlit? Kreedz Climbing will be a free game and will not have paid dlcs.
Q: I can run Counter-Strike 1.6, can I play this game? We've had great results with older computers playing Kreedz Climbing before, especially if certain commands like matdxlevel 80 are used! As the game will be free, it won't cost you anything but time to try! Q: Is there a Linux or OSX version? Not currently, but this can be added later! A Mac would have to be bought to test an OSX version.
Of a 3D platformer focusing on skill-based movement like bhopping, surfing, etc. And controls true to CS:GO, but optimized for smooth hopping. XNA is a great library and MonoGame allows you to port to Mac and Linux. But I'm always interested in those kz/bhop/surf games, it's a lot of fun!
Q: I really like the game and I'd like to donate to it's development or the developers! How can I do that?
Thank you very much for your interest! There are restrictions on what kind of money we can accept due to the game being free, so we think it's best to wait until the game is on Steam so we can ask Valve about this directly to avoid any problems.
But thanks again! Q: I want to make a map for the game! Can this be done? Kreedz Climbing uses the Hammer map editor, like many other Source games. The mod version of the game even has a tool to automatically set it up for you!
(LaunchHammerKZ.exe in the KreedzClimbing/maptools folder). On Steam, you won't need to use a program like that to set the editor up. Q: I love X map from CS 1.6 / CSS / CS:GO - why isn't it in the game? Map conversions that are distributed with the game are only done so with direct permission from the author of the map. We can't distribute a conversion if we can't contact the map author, sorry! There is also a limit to how many maps we can reasonably put in the game download, as we want to keep the download size of the game reasonable for players with slower internet connections.
Q: I've made a map for the mod version, or I'm in the middle of making a map - if the game gets on Steam, will my map break or do I need to change it? You shouldn't have to change your map, everything should be compatible! Q: Are there plans for Steam Workshop integration? We'll definitely be pursuing this for sharing maps and other addons (like models). Q: What's with these new disciplines like Bungee and Powerjump? Why not just stick to pure KZ?
These new disciplines aren't enforced! There are pure KZ/bhop/surf maps in the game. These disciplines are optional and exist so mappers and players have more options!
If you want to play a pure KZ map, you can do that! Q: Is there some sort of restrictions on how maps are made?
Do I have to use these new disciplines in my map? There are no restrictions enforced by the developers or the game. It's recommended you add the timer entity so your map has a course, but ultimately you can do anything you want with it! Q: It there auto-bhop in the game?
There currently is no auto-bhop in the game, but it could be added! Please be aware that auto-bhop will be a map feature if it's added, meaning it will only be available if the map allows it. We feel this is the best compromise between adding auto-bhop and keeping original bhop map gameplay as it was intended. Q: I can't see the walls / objects my friend and see. Am I desynced or something? You aren't desynced!
Mappers in Kreedz Climbing have the ability to make certain parts of the map visible or invisible (and solid and nonsolid) to individual players based on their progress in the map, or what course they are playing, etc. This means you can have easy and hard versions of the course in the same map, or even set up singleplayer style elements in multiplayer!
This ability extends to other entities like triggers, teleporters and so on. Finally, it even works with team courses, like 2man, 3man etc - allowing these experiences to be played with your friends! Q: Is there a limit on how many courses I can have in the map?
The limit is currently 2047 courses per map. Q: Are there multiplayer courses (where you need to jump on your teammates or work with them directly)? The game supports multiplayer courses of up to 4 players working together, and some maps have these kinds of courses!
Check out kzcoopminis for examples! Q: What's the tickrate? The tickrate is set at 100 and the -tickrate command line option has been removed. Q: What's the air accelerate settings?
Air accelerate varies depending on the map mode, 10 by default, 50 if Bhop mode is enabled (in bhop mode, you also have no slowdown on landing), and 100 if Surf mode is enabled. Q: What's this hook for?
Can't you cheat with it? The hook is essentially an arrow you can fire at the map walls and pull yourself to them, like noclip, except you can't go through the walls. You can't use it while a timer is running, unless you invalidate your current run, in which case you don't earn rewards. It's used to traverse the map to find new courses and explore. Q: What's the difference between the 'Limited' bungee rope and the 'Free' version? The Limited bungee rope can only attach to specific rope targets (usually bars or something obvious) and it's abilities are dictated by the mapper.
The Free bungee can attach to anywhere on the map and has pre-configured settings. Many courses in the game give you the Free bungee after you complete it as a throwback to older versions before the hook was added, to allow you to find new courses after completing the first one! Q: What's the weird rocket launcher that shoots a laser for? Known as the Art Tool, it's purpose is for drawing on the map, originally as a teaching tool to help other players, but you can draw anything you want! It comes in different colours and you can change the size of the dots.
There is a limit of 4096 dots, if you exceed it, older ones will be removed. You can also remove all the drawings by pressing R on the tool, and change the art tool settings with the rrdecal console commands! Q: How can I enable the console? You can enable the console by going to the Options, Keyboard, Advanced, and tick Enable developer console. You can also issue console commands through the chat! Use '/command', for example, /ct, /quit, /retry, /invis, etc. Q: How do I see what commands are available in the console?
Use the 'find' console command. For example, 'find kz' would find all console commands that start with kz. The majority of kzmod specific console commands start with kz for easy finding! Q: I've seen videos of some players with a CS 1.6 knife and USP, and hear HL1 sounds ingame.
Is this some sort of pack I can download? This comes with the game, you don't need to download it! To switch to different effects, check out the Advanced Options! Q: Why do we hear pain sounds on landing if you can't directly die from falling damage?
It would be weird to not hear that when you landed, right? Rest assured you aren't running out of health, unless you fall into some sawblades or something.
Try and avoid that! Q: What's Tag Arena (kztag maps)?
Tag Arena is a gamemode based on Hide and Seek from Counter-Strike, but designed to be more fast paced, using powerups and special abilities for both seekers and hiders. The aim is to have as much untagged time as possible, the winner is whoever has the most time when the round time is over! Servers can customise Tag Arena with the kzsvtagarena console variables. Maximum announcement length reached, so that's all for now!
